Designed and studio-made by American designer and craftsman James Bearden, this awesome floor lamp looks like it entered this world from a different dimension. Devoid of any curves whatsoever, the design is made completely of square steel. Square steel plate as a base, square steel as the column adorned with more square steel rods all welded together to form what looks like a glitch in reality. The lampshade, which lifts off the base, is formed of a web of hundreds of steel rods sometimes jetting out at 90 degree angles. It looks fascinating.
This piece was gifted to me by the artist in 2015, making it quite early in his production. In lamp form, these are few and far between, even compared the the ‘Dwelling’ sculptures that act as the base for the design of this piece. The COA is available, along with a number of other Bearden pieces.
In original, very good condition.
