“After many trips, all these characters encountered and not photographed emerged by chance as totems and idols thanks to papier-mâché. In February 1991, the barge-workshop sank. All the sculptures dissolved to nourish the memory of the Seine and the sea. In March 1991, I started with cement, which, unlike paper, needs water. Thus appear characters, rougher, denser, more solitary, with a vague hope of eternity. In 1995, during a walk, I discovered on the shores rejected woods with the appearance of silhouettes. Thus begins “the failures”. Without intervening on the wood, over time, unique personalities reappear. In alliance with bronze, what seems destroyed is reborn.”
