We are very proud to be able to present and offer this exceptional, stunning and large sculpture vase by German artist Katharina Eichler (b.1971). This piece is from 2023 and was formed using the Nerikomi technique (練り込み) – is a Japanese term describing an artistic technique where multiple different colours of clay are combined and often marbled to create interesting layered or patterned designs – sometimes having a similar style to the murrine canes of millefiori glasswork seen in high quality vessels of Venetian Murano glass.
The different colours of black, milk white, light blue and taupe / grey clay are layered and pressed together to form very natural looking lines, shapes and forms. The pieces are then air dried and rested before firing, after which they are sanded to reveal the fine stones within the clay – similar to the way marble and stones present themselves within a Terrazzo floor.
Absolutely stunning piece of art which can still be used as a vase. This is one of a collection of three pieces we have from Katharina Eichler (see last photo for all three vessels).
