Vintage Design
This simple, almost contemporary style old table, dates from the early nineteen century and was produced from elm wood in Shanxi province, central China. Originally, the table would have served as an altar table, placed against a wall in a main living room, below ancestor portraits and used as a surface for offerings to ancestors.
It has a wonderful patterned grain particularly on the top surface with thick rounded legs that slot through supporting, straight stretchers into the wide, top frames – creating a fabulous, minimalist look. The old, dark finish has worn to a lovely patina and shows off the wonderful character of the wood.
Today, this long, narrow table would make a lovley console table for a reception room or large hallway.
