Vintage Design
An Important 1930s French Teak Desk, attributed to Pierre Legrain. Of striking Cubist Design and constructed in solid Teak, this desk is outstanding in terms of visual design and quality craftsmanship. Legrain was a user of exotic timbers within his designs and this desk is unusually constructed in solid Teak with fitted drawers (also with solid Teak linings). The Frieze has three deep and overstated mouldings which are fitted with concealed drawers and blind cupboards below. The whole desk rests upon recessed blocks, giving a ‘floating’ look. The strong cubist nature of the piece, along with it’s original ‘chocolate’ colour on wide grained timber are all nods towards Legrain.
