This Playful, Brutalist, and yet Stylized Sofa is one of the results of a long investigation by Lucas Muñoz Muñoz in the shapes Foam takes when it’s molded into steel frames.
This piece is composed of two foam blocks, cut at a right angle, covered by a neoprene sleeve and tamed into a Sofa function by setting it in a steel frame. It’s a Contemporary redefinition of Upholstery where Tension and Compression shape Function. The concept of minimal intervention in the original manufactured state of the material defines design decisions throughout the piece, so no screws, glue or any other mechanic or chemical connector is used, A straight seam closes each neoprene sleeve in a tube. Foam cuts and metal welds are only done in right angle, with just the pressure to “fit in” defining the shape of the resulting Sofa.
