In the 18th and 19th centuries, camphor chests were used to transport tea, silk and porcelain from China to Europe and America. Camphor wood has a fresh scent similar to eucalyptus and is a natural moth repellent. Camphor chests were also used to store blankets, bedding, clothing, and papers.
