This striking cabinet originates from The Netherlands. Its cubic appearance is emphasized by the dark colored wood. Vertically arranged slats in pine structure the cabinet in a rhythmic way. A pattern of closely arranged nail heads functions both as constructive as well as decorative detail. Two doors of the same size access the black inside with shelves and a drawer. The designer created this cabinet with strong visual qualities that contribute to an almost monumental look.
Overall, the cabinet has a reminiscence of Dom Hans van der Laan and the Bossche School. Both van der Laan as the Bossche School movement strived towards sober designs. Their architecture as well as designs were strongly based on numerical relationships such as the ‘plastic number’. The characteristics of these styles are also visible in this brutalist cabinet.
