Subject: Secretaire sideboard
Period: second half of the 19th century
Origin: central Italy
Description:
Cabinet in two bodies consisting of a drop-leaf desk with drawers in the lower part and a sideboard with two drawers in the upper part.
Made in solid walnut, interior in solid oak and maple used for the compartment inside the drop-leaf desk.
Sober and simple line but mobile inside a complex one. The two upper drawers cannot be opened unless the flap is opened and the drawers inside the flap are pulled out. In fact, inside the drawer housing there is a mechanism with a metal support which, if pushed upwards, “frees” the upper drawer which can then be opened. Naturally, if the flap is closed, the two upper drawers cannot be accessed.
As previously mentioned, the secretaire is studied in detail, maple was used for the interior of the desk and solid oak for the internal structure of all the elements.
The lower flap drawer is large and has a compartment inside for documents.
