Vintage Design
Elegant and timeless, this swivel armchair was designed and produced in the 1950’s by the TON Company in Czechoslovakia. It has however the markings of the LIGNA label, which can be seen on the underside of the chair seat. LIGNA was the sister company of TON which produced furniture exclusively for markets outside of Czechoslovakia.
The shape of this chair is based on the traditional Thonet/TON bending wood furniture making technique dating back to the 19th century. The padded seat and the backrest is an aesthetic more typical of the 1950’s. The upholstered seat and the backrest are covered in a red fabric, an exact representational of the original one which was sadly damaged beyond repair.
The chair is in great vintage condition. The wooden frame has been refurbished and finished by hand using Shellac varnish to achieve the best possible finish and to bring out the colour and pattern of the beech wood. The fabric has been reupholstered.
